The village of Ateca

During the 108 kms on the N-11 (E 90) highway from Zaragoza to Madrid the road is climbing, sometimes very steep, toward the Mancha Plain. Madrid is still 218 kms away when we are leaving the highway, about 15 km at the south-west of Calatayud entering the village of Ateca. Ateca is situated at 647 meters above sealevel. Although Ateca is a rather small village, it serves as a centre for the villages along the A1507 to Bijuesca. Elementary and highschool send their bus every day up the road to collect the students in the villages. The mudejar style Santa María tower, 13^th century, at the left is a national monument.

Ateca from the north

In Ateca we take the A-1507 road from Ateca to Bijuesca At first the road is large, but after a few kilometers it gets more narrow with many curves. But the countryside is beautiful

The village Moros at the left side of the road to Bijuesca

At the left of the A 1507 is the village of Moros. The name of the village reminds me of the early middle ages when this was defenitely a morish country.

A look back to the village Moros

The village of Moros is located on a hill. This is a look back to the south. The Morish castle is in total ruins.

The village Villalengua

The village ov Villalengua is the next to enter a few kilometers after Moros. Here you may take the road over the sierra to Cervera de la Cañada, a small village at the N234 highway from Calatayud to Soria.

The next village is Torrijo  de la Cañada.

A look at the tall church-tower of Torrijo, the next village on the road to Bijuesca. People are sitting on chairs in front of their houses. The vaste church with its lage tower is impressive.
